Communion And Why It Is Important

Many grew up taking or at least have witnessed doing the act of communion during church services. The pastor will read the important scriptures pertaining to the taking of the bread and drinking the cup, but many do not realize that this is not merely just a ritual given in the Bible. In fact, just doing communion will release the supernatural power of the Cross and Resurrection into your life right there where you are. Jesus did not tell people to do things just for symbolic reasons. NO! You are tapping into the Power that is fully available to you through Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:23-32 AMP
23 For I received from the Lord Himself that [instruction] which I passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is (represents) My body, which is [offered as a sacrifice] for you. Do this in [affectionate] remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant [ratified and established] in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in[affectionate] remembrance of Me.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are [symbolically] proclaiming [the fact of] the Lord’s death until He comes [again].
27 So then whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy [of Him] will be guilty of [profaning and sinning against] the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But a person must [prayerfully] examine himself [and his relationship to Christ], and only when he has done so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup.29 For anyone who eats and drinks [without solemn reverence and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifice of Christ], eats and drinks a judgment on himself if he does not recognize the body [of Christ].30 That [careless and unworthy participation] is the reason why many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep [in death]. 31 But if we evaluated and judged ourselves honestly [recognizing our shortcomings and correcting our behavior], we would not be judged.32 But when we [fall short and] are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined [by undergoing His correction] so that we will not be condemned [to eternal punishment] along with the world.
If you notice in verse 30, an explanation is given as to why some are sick and have died. They were not utilizing communion for what it is capable of doing- Healing and Deliverance!
Communion is about searching the areas of our life and examining all sin that is in need of repentance. When we bring this before God during communion, supernatural healing and restoration are poured out over you. The Cross is where our sins are forgiven, and the Resurrection is where our body and mind and soul are made whole again.
I recommend anyone seeking healing to take communion at least once a day for 10 days while you actively seek God and listen as He ministers to you. This is a simple process, and God does not need it to become a "religious act" that many churches require only certain people touch or participate in.
First, make a list of areas that you know are issues for you to talk to God about. This will help you focus and be diligent. Take your time and just go over areas that bother you or things that have been an issue. Do you usually get angry in traffic; upset at family; issues at work; past areas that you still dwell on; etc.
Next, go to the store and get a loaf of baked bread or crackers (for example). Don't over think it. Then get some type of juice or other suitable beverage. It does not have to be grape juice or wine. God is not hard to get along with.
Now when you are ready, put on some worship music and just go over the first item on your list with God. Talk to Him about the problem; repent and forgive if that is needed (this may even be forgiving yourself too); take a piece of bread and eat it; then drink from the cup; pay attention to anything God says to you or brings to your mind. Feel His peace and care for you. When you are ready, move onto the next item on your list and repeat the steps for repentance and forgiving; taking a piece of bread and a drink.
Pay attention to any other areas that come to your mind that were not on your list as well. Deal with those in the same manner. This is your special time to be with God, so let it flow for as long as it needs to be. Worship and feel your heart be lifted and renewed. Ask Jesus to heal your mind, body, and soul. Believe and Receive that He is there doing what you are placing your faith into. Your faith is what draws Him even deeper to you.
As you go about your days for the next 9 days of communion days, continue to make lists that pertain to areas that come up in the Healing Prayer on this page as well. Dealing with sins is a lifetime requirement, and healing will come out of this always. The sooner we learn to deal with our sins right when they happen, the less damage that we will experience. You will find as you make this a way of your life, that your soul will be healthier, and you will indeed prosper in all things, just as God has promised. You will also find you stop falling into those sin traps so easily when you get in the habit of dealing with it right away.
